Bouziès -> Vers

Our objective today was the small, nestled town of Vers, a renowned gastronomical detour, due to the famed ‘La Truite Dorée’ ✨ resto / hotel / spa, etc. This was to be our extravagance, a reward for the grind and a chance to refresh, although our fancy outfits were showing the effects of 2 weeks in luggage.
First, however, we had to boogie outta Bouziès. Discouragingly, the mid-day stopover spot, Saint-Géry, was well off the beaten track… except, if we could try another railway bridge over the river, we’d have a 5km shortcut…

It was no Eiffel steel-lattice classic, but its arches took our weight across the Lot after a precarious scramble up.
After a parkside baguette-wich and Orangina (a remarkably refreshing libation) in Saint-Géry, it was back to the torrid grind up and over a collection of houses named ‘Pasturat’. A sweaty mention of ‘being pasteurized in Pasturat’ did not go over well.
A sinuous descent took us to Vers and La Truite Dorée’ ✨ where a riverside (really a creek, but c’est la France) patio suite awaited us and we wiled away apéro hours playing cards and watching the Saturday crowd of locals cavorting in the quaint cataract and stream below. We felt ridiculously bourgeois.

Dinnertime saw us seated amongst the well-heeled of this area, so we tried to blend in by pairing Cahors wine with nutty salad, jamon-melon , steak tartare, cabicou cheese and…

…a crunchy, gilded trout!
