All for Arles

* also Aix, Avignon, les Baux etc…

A week of bourgeois indulgence; the young cats were successfully herded then proceeded to ‘out-adult’ us with their tik-tok-isms and moxie. A wondrous time was had by all, with us sharing our fondness for Provence and seeing its history and splendours through new, wide eyes.

Nature is kind to this place: lush, warm and bright.

The architecture is all over the historical map… one can travel several millenia in a few steps. Regardless, it all gets bleached to this warm sand colour.

And, of course, we find oddities:

Carrières des Lumières = a cool (literally) retired quarry, now filled with wild polysensory spectacles – Picasso and Frida Kahlo’s works probably don’t need any more exposure but it was mesmerizing. Other statues of the Silver Horser and ‘l’intestin’ were absorbing.

The exodus is nigh. We visited the début of another (next?) French pilgrim route, (the cathedral in Arles) and are itching to get back on the chemin or is that the bug bites?

The Gen Y’s and Z’s are railing to Lyon, Cannes, Paris, leaving us X’ers ‘louse in Toulouse’ before we’re ‘bac in Figeac’.
