Sénergues -> Conques
After a brilliant breakfast from our English ex-pat hosts, we eased into a (supposedly) p’tit étape of a mere 10 km to the hallowed haven of Conques. The French hordes revere this place – it’s hard to get to, hidden away in a wild canyon, lush with greenery and holy legends.
We now agree – the coming down is the hardest part… toe jamming, tippy equilibrium, intense footfalls.
Conques, yet another PBVTM, but whatta beaut! The centre piece is an incongruous, hulky, ancient abbey, with the required saintly relics.
The grind is real, so it’s redeeming to have such glorious settings… and diversions.
